Beth May Simonis

Beth May Simonis, age 83, of La Grande, died Monday, June 16, 2003 at St. Mary's Medical Center in Walla Walla.

Friends may call on Friday from 5:00 until 6:30 p.m. followed by Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Daniels Chapel of the Valley. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church with Father Hank Albrecht celebrating. Committal and interment will follow at the Hillcrest Cemetery.


Mrs. Simonis was born on September 22, 1919, the daughter of William and Elvina (Halliday) Hewitt in La Grande. She was educated in Pendleton and Meacham. On December 25, 1958 she married Nicholas "Nick" Simonis in La Grande. They made their home in La Grande until 1994 when they moved to Umatilla. In 2000 they returned to La Grande.


Mrs. Simonis was an active member of Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, the Eagles Auxiliary and a Pinnacle Club at the Senior Center. She loved to travel and bowl and enjoyed fishing, camping and the outdoors. In her younger years she and husband, Nick, enjoyed dancing. She hand crocheted afghans for all of her grandchildren.


Survivors include her husband, Nick Simonis of La Grande; step-daughter, Arlene Baldwin of Orem, Utah; eight grandchildren; twenty seven great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. A daughter, Mary Simonis, sister, Beryl Hewitt and brother, Floyd and Harry Hewitt preceded her in death.
