Beth Irene Jones

Beth Irene Jones, age 89, of Burley, Idaho, and formerly of Union, died October 20, 2011 in Burley, Idaho. A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 28, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at the Union Cemetery. A gathering for family and friends will follow at the Union Methodist Church fellowship hall. Viewing will be held on Friday morning from 9:00 until 11:00 at Daniels~Knopp Funeral, Cremation &* Life Celebration Center, 1502 7th Street in La Grande.



Beth was born on April 25, 1922, the daughter of Clarence W. and Hazel Irene (Dutcher) Dodds in Bushnell, Nebraska. The family moved to Union from Parma, Idaho in 1938. She graduated from Union High School with the class of 1940. She worked for McCaslin Lumber Company (now Bronson Lumber) and was transferred to their Burley, Idaho store. She then worked for the Farm and Home Administration as a loan officer until her retirement. She married William "Gay" Jones on December 5, 1948. She was an active member of the Burley Soroptimist Club for 48 years and held many offices over the years. She was also a member of the Professional Business Women in Burly and the Union County Museum. She enjoyed embroidery, sewing and ceramics. She and her husband enjoyed camping and traveling. They especially loved traveling to Eastern Oregon. Her husband preceded her in death on April 3, 1984.



Survivors include her brother, Ben Dodds of Mt. Vernon, Oregon; sister, Berdine Sanders of The Dalles, Oregon; sister-in-law, Mary Dodds of Union, Oregon; three nieces, three nephews, thre great nieces, three great nephews, three great great nieces and five great great nephews; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Robert and William Dodds and a baby sister.


In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions be made to the Union County Museum or the Union Methodist Church in care of Daniels~Knopp.
