Bessie Leona Scott, 95, of Enterprise, died March 4 at Wallowa Valley Care Center in Enterprise. Services will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Loveland Funeral Chapel, La Grande. Burial is at Elgin Cemetery.
She was born Dec. 23, 1915, to John and Erma (Scott) Gray on Cricket Flat, north of Elgin.
Leona grew up living in various communities in Northeast Oregon and Southwestern Washington. On Dec. 22, 1939, she married her childhood sweetheart and longtime friend, Howard Scott in Westfir.
Leona and Howard settled at Cricket Flat on the family farm. They traveled throughout the Northwest and shared those journeys with their parents, siblings, nieces and nephews.
Leona loved nature, art and writing as well as the farm life. She was a loving wife and supportive sister. Leona was considered a family historian and kept track of the many family members. She enjoyed family reunions and get-togethers especially Children's Day at the church on Cricket Flat.
She is survived by her brothers, Gerald of North Powder and Clark of Telocaset; and sisters, Beulah Tally of Lostine and Marilyn McIntyre of Union. Leona was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Howard; brother, John; and sisters, Lenis Bales, Lela Fordice and Lillian Newton.
