Bertrand L. Mcneil

Bertrand L. McNeil, age 87, of La Grande, died Sunday, January 30, 2005 at the Grande Ronde Hospital. A memorial service will be held at the La Grande Church of the Nazarene on Friday, February 4, 2005 at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Brent Clapp officiating. Private interment will be at the Grandview Cemetery.

Mr. McNeil was born on January 1, 1918, the son of William A. and Charlotte (Crites) McNeil in Walla Walla, Washington where he graduated from high school. He came to La Grande in 1935 and on August 1, 1937 he married Catherine Winburn in La Grande. He worked for Baker-La Grande Grocery Warehouse for 27 years before going to work in the shipping department at the Boise Cascade Lumber Mill in 1970. He retired in 1980.

Mr. McNeil was a member of the La Grande Church of the Nazarene. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed fishing and camping. He was a people person and enjoyed visiting with anyone he met and he never knew a stranger. He loved spending time with family.

Survivors include his wife, Catherine McNeil; son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Sherry McNeil; grandchildren, Rondyann and Bill Gerst and Robert and Chris McNeil; great grandchildren, Kara Gerst and Spencer Gerst and Brittany McNeil and Baylee McNeil, all of La Grande; and other relatives and friends. One brother preceded him in death.
