Berneta Sunshine Moats

Berneta Sunshine Moats, age 92, of The Dalles and formerly of La Grande died Thursday, June 22, at a care center.

Mrs. Moats was born November 10, 1911 to Winfred Morris and Elva Edith Wythers Pierson in Appleton, Washington. She graduated from La Grande High School in 1930 and married George Albert Moats on April 30, 1934 in La Grande. She worked as a secretary and bookkeeper and lived in La Grande for 69 years. She moved to The Dalles seven years ago.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church and Good Sam Club and enjoyed gardening, fishing, knitting, playing with her dogs, playing card games, motor home travel and visiting with her friends and family.

Survivors include her siblings and their spouses, Lenn and Eleanor Pierson and Jim and Doreen Pierson of The Dalles, Mary Jane Pierson-Millard and other relatives. Her husband died in 2001, a son, Bruce Scott Moats died in 1982 and a brother, Ray Lowell Pierson died in the service during World War II.

Memorials may be made to the Methodist Church, 1612 Fourth Street in La Grande or the the Hospice of the Gorge, 751 Mtrtle Street, The Dalle, 97058 or any other charity.
