Bernadene Nelle Roberts

Bernadene Nelle Roberts, age 89, of La Grande, died February 21, 2009 at her home. A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 15, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Daniels~Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center. Military Honors will follow at the Hillcrest Cemetery.

Bernadene was born on December 31, 1919, the daughter of Charles and Gladys (Lloyd) Roberts in La Grande. During World War II she served her country with the United States Navy. After her honorable discharge she lived in San Francisco, California where she was a buyer for Livingston Brothers. After her retirement in 1988 she returned to La Grande to care for her mother.

She was a member of the VFW and American Legion. She was an avid Elvis Presley Fan. She collected dolls and crocheted doll clothes. She loved going to yard sales, gardening, canning, working outside and feeding the squirrels and bluejays. She had an active mind and enjoyed doing number and crossword puzzles. She also loved fishing, camping and telling stories on her sister.

Survivors include sister, Olive Olson of Bayview, Idaho; nephew,Stan Stephen and niece, Sally Jo; numerous other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by siblings, Gladys Moffett, Charles Roberts and Lawrence "Sonny" Roberts.

Those who wish may make contributions in her memory to the American Legion Auxiliary in care of Daniels~Knopp, 1502 7th Street in La Grande.
