Beatrice Belle Shaffer

October 22, 1923 — September 27, 2005

Beatrice Belle Shaffer, age 81, of Elgin, died Tuesday, September 27, 2005 at the Grande Ronde Hospital. A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 30, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Summerville Cemetery Chapel. Interment will be held at the Summerville Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Daniels Chapel of the Valley.

Mrs. Shaffer was born on October 22, 1923, the daughter of Luther Martin and Ellen Belle (Bennett) Hays in Hagersgrove, Missouri. The family moved to Idaho when she was a child and later to the Grande Ronde Valley. On August 22, 1942 she married Lawrence W. Shaffer in Weiser, Idaho. They made their home in Elgin and raised their family there. He preceded her in death on October 4, 1998.

Mrs. Shaffer was a member of the Grange and the VFW. She enjoyed gardening, hunting and horseback riding into the high country.

Survivors include her children, Larry Lee Shaffer, Jack Lawrence Shaffer and Terry Lyle Shaffer, all of Elgin and Wynonia Bea Shaffer of La Grande; 9 grandchildren; brothers, Clarence, Benjamin and Charles Hays all of Elgin; sister, Bertha Stephens of Kootskie, Idaho; and other relatives and friends. A brother, Oliver Hays preceded her in death.
