Barbara J. Walker

Barbara J. Walker, 77, of Seaside and formerly of Union, died December 23, 2005 in Long Beach, Washington. At her request there will be no services.

Mrs. Walker was born August 7, 1928, in Renton, Washington to Robert and Alice Samson Walker. She grew up and attended schools in Renton. She married Jack Walker in Seattle on September 2, 1949. He died in 1995.

In 1960, the couple moved to Fairbanks, Alaska, where they homesteaded 160 acres. Mrs. Walker worked at the phone company as a switchboard operator. In 1970, the Walkers moved to Hammond, where she worked at the cannery and at Harold's Corner. In 1975 they moved to Union. From 1980 to 1987 she owned and operated Barb's Cafe in Island City. Then in 1987 the family moved back to the west side, where Mrs. Walker worked at the Warrenton Mini-Mart.

She enjoyed sewing, bingo, feeding the squirrels and seagulls, music and dancing. She was a member of the Moose and Elks Lodge in Astoria and La Grande.

Mrs. Walker is survived by sons and their wives, Bruce and Pam Walker of Emmett, Idaho and Brian and Susan Walker of Warrenton; two grandsons; sister, Lois Holmes of Tucson, Arizona; brothers, George Walker of Kennewick, Washington and Ken Walker of Anchorage, Alaska; and numerous other family members. Dying earlier was her husband. A son, Craig, died in April 1979.
