February 23, 1941 — October 30, 2010

Barbara Ann Uppiano, 69, of Wallowa County, died Oct. 30 at Wallowa Memorial Hospital in Enterprise. A celebration of life service will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Lostine Presbyterian Church.

She was born the fifth of eight children to Kenneth and Alice Claycomb Feb. 23, 1941, in Ionia, Mich.

Barbara graduated from Claire High School and attended Claire Bible College before moving to the Boise area where she met and married Arnildo "Roland" Uppiano. She worked at the Ada County Nursing Home. Together they built a home in Meridian, Idaho, and had a daughter, Suzan.

In 1974, they purchased a ranch outside Lostine. Barbara worked first at Wallowa Memorial Hospital as a CNA, and later became the night supervisor at the Wallowa County Nursing Home.

Those who knew Barbara say she loved people, and people loved her. They say she was kind, gentle and loving and had an incredible sense of humor. Her family says she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and was a permanent fixture at school activities until her health prevented her from attending.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Roland Uppiano; daughter, Suzan Hobbs; and her three grand-children. Barbara was preceded in death by her father and mother, Kenneth and Alice Claycomb; and three of her siblings.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Wallowa Hospital Foundation.
