Barbara Jean (Harlow) Elam, 82 years of age, passed away June 21,2014, at Wildflower Lodge in La Grande, Oregon. Viewing will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at Daniels~Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center, 1502 7th Street, La Grande. Funeral services will be held at Daniels~Knopp on Wednesday July 2nd, 2014 at 2:30 PM. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.
Barbara was born in La Grande and moved to Portland when she was ten years old. After graduating from High School in Portland, she moved back to La Grande to attend college. There, she met her husband-to-be, Bill Elam, who owned Bill's Electric.
Barbara secured her Master's Degree in Library Science from the University of Washington and moved up from the Children's Library to City Librarian. She loved the quaint old library building where she spent nearly forty years until her retirement. Barb was very active in her church work, and taught adult Sunday School Classes.
She had a love of books and enjoyed reading and doing research. Other hobbies were crocheting, photography, and going camping with her husband, Bill.
Barbara is survived by her brother, Dale, extended family and many friends.
Those who wish may make contributions in memory of Barbara to the Crossroads Community Church in care of Daniels~ Knopp.
