Austin "Bear" Daniel Carter

Austin "Bear" Daniel Carter, 12, of Union, died April 29 of unknown causes at Grande Ronde Hospital. A celebration of life will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Union High School gym. Dress will be casual. Burial will be at the Union Cemetery.

Austin was born Dec. 2, 1995, to Christian Carter and Connie Steel in La Grande. Those who knew "Bear" considered him an amazing young man. He was known for his charm, laughter and quick wit.

Bear shared his heartfelt smile to those around him. He will be remembered atop his unicycle, giving a thumbs-up gesture while sharing his amazing smile.

Bear is survived by his parents; one brother, Wayne of Union; grandparents, Tom and Ann Steele of Union, Sandra Hoxworth of Portland and Steve and Brenda Carter of Dundee. He was preceded in death by his younger brother, Adrian.
