Anna L. Cosner

d. January 13, 2005

Anna L. Cosner, 88, of Elgin, died Thursday, Jan. 13 at a care center. A celebration of life will begin at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at the La Grande Baptist Church with potluck following. Burial will be at the Island City Cemetery.

Mrs. Cosner was born October 29, 1916, to Forest Alwell and Lara K. Carpenter in Gooding, Idaho. The family moved to Island City, traveling by cook wagon, and then to La Grande where Anna attended Riveria Elementary School. On August 12, 1940, she married Otto N. Cosner. They moved firest to Summerville and then they bought a farm near Elgin where Anna lived the rest of her life. For years she dreamed of having a new house and in 1993 her dream was realized through the help of her son, Dan, nephew, Rollie Mattson and family friend, Alva James Wing. She was proud of her new home and loved to have company. She enjoyed raising livestock, growing flowers and vegetables, gathering firewood, camping, fishing, hunting, cooking for holiday and family occasions and traveling. In her later years she enjoyed short trips around the valley to look at farms and livestock, and she enjoyed trips to her daughter Helen's for dinners. She had a close relationship with her daughter, Agnes, who took care of Anna in her later years.

Survivors include children and their spouses, Agnes Cosner of Elgin, Helen and Fred Brown of Pendleton and Dan Cosner of Elgin; sisters, Dorothy Lockner of Fruitland, Idaho and Alice Wilson of Boise; and close family friend, Alva Wing. Her husband and two sisters all died earlier.
