Andrew Gordon Eggleston, Sr.

December 12, 1966 — February 2, 2013

Andrew Gordon Eggleston Sr., 46, died Feb. 2 at OHSU in Portland. There will be a private family interment. Arrangements are under the care of Crown Memorial.

Andrew was born Dec. 12, 1966, in North Kingstown, R.I., the second son of Jayne (Fitz) and Allan Eggleston. He and his older brother, Allan Jr., were born with Bruton's disease, a genetic disorder also known as X-Linked Agammaglobulinemia. This disease prohibits bone marrow from being able to produce any immunity. Andrew suffered from repeated infections and severe lung scarring that led up to dependence on ventilators and his eventual passing.

Andrew lived in Guam, Washington, Michigan, Rhode Island and Oregon. He attended school in Cove and then Mac-Hi in Milton-Freewater until moving to Hermiston, where he graduated in 1984 from Hermiston High School. He attended the University of Washington, where he took pre-engineering classes, and earned a degree in computer programming from what is now known as Eastern Oregon University.

Throughout his life Andrew enjoyed participating in and watching sports. He was a Green Bay Packers and Denver Broncos fan and was on the golf team in high school. He also enjoyed music, playing alto and baritone saxophone in jazz, symphonic and marching bands, acting and history, especially as a Civil War instructor in Cove.

Andrew belonged to the DeMolay in the Masons and was proud to consider himself a constitutional patriot. He was a political activist and wrote a Libertarian column with L. Neil Smith. His lifelong dreams included finding a cure for Bruton's disease, and he participated in many clinical trials. His greatest gift was that of himself to science.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; brother, Allan Jr., who died in 1988 from complications of Bruton's disease; and an infant daughter, Kayla Jory.

Survivors include his father and stepmother, Allan and Mary Eggleston of Cove; his mother and stepfather, Jayne Fitz and Oman Wilcox of Wasilla, Alaska; sons, Thomas Griffin of Grants Pass, Andrew Jr. of Beaverton, Nathan Roecker of McMinnville and Kasiner Christian Eggleston-Slover; one grandson; and loved ones, David Williams of Pendleton, Barb Steed of Parker, Colo., and Teena Turner of Corbett.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Immune Deficiency Foundation (https://crm.primaryimmune.org). Donations indicated on the web form as "unrestricted" will be allocated for research.
