Alvy J. Pfefferkorn, age 90, of Summerville, died October 7, 2005 at a care center in La Grande. A graveside service will begin at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Summerville Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Daniels Chapel of the Valley.
Alvy was born July 30, 1915 at his family homestead in the foothills of the Blue Mountains west of Summerville. He was the youngest of seven children born to Fred and Della (See) Pfefferkorn. In November of 1938 he married Lila Lewis. He lived his entire life in the Summerville area where he was a farmer/rancher and sawmill worker. He retired in July of 1980 from the Boise Cascade Sawmill in Elgin.
Survivors include a daughter, Reta Clark of Summerville; a son, Glen of Dallas, Oregon; two grandsons, Bill and Bob Thompson; four great grandchildren, Ben, Cody, Katie and Derrick and other relatives and friends. His wife preceded him in death in 1988 and all of his siblings.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or GRH Hospice in care of Daniels Chapel of the Valley, 1502 7th Street, La Grande, Oregon 97850.
