Alvin Eugene Obrist, 56, of Pendleton and formerly of La Grande died Oct. 16. Viewing will be from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Oct 18 at Burns Mortuary of Pendleton and from 8 to 9 a.m. Oct 19 at the Seventh-day Adventist Church. A graveside service will begin at 10 a.m. at the Olney Cemetery.
Mr. Obrist was born Jan. 21 1948, to Edwin and Ruth Thompson Obrist in Baker City. He graduated from high school in Hermiston in 1955 and later from Eastern Oregon State College. He served in the Navy during the Vietnam War and worked as a cook and a vocational rehabilitation counselor for the state of Oregon in La Grande, The Dalles and Pendleton. He was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and the VFW.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara, of Pendleton; siblings and their spouses, Gloria and Don Holbert of La Grande, Don Obrist of Hermiston and Mitch Obrist of Pendleton; and other relatives. A brother, Larry Obrist, died earlier.
