Alvada Gover, age 88, of Imbler, Oregon died Saturday, April 14, 2007 at a local care facility. A celebration of life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 19, 2007 at Daniels Chapel of the Valley. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 19, 2007 at Eagle Valley Cemetery in Richland, Oregon. Viewing will be on Wednesday from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at Daniels Chapel of the Valley, 1502 7th Street In La Grande.
Mrs. Gover was born on May 5, 1918, the daughter of John Lee and Florence Bell (White) Taylor in Halfway, Oregon. She was raised in Halfway and graduated from high school there. On June 1, 1937 she married David S. Gover, Jr. in Baker, Oregon. They went to Susanville, California where David was working and lived for a short while. Then came to Dry Gulch near Richland, Oregon where his parents David and Pearl Gover had a home place. The home place was divided in the family. David and Alvada built the first house on their land. They had four children while living in Richland, Oregon. In 1959 they came to Union County. She enjoyed picking berries, especially huckleberries, playing cards, reading, embroidery work, genealogy research and gardening.
Survivors include her daughter, Ellen J. Gover of Greenacres, Washington; granddaughter, Kimberly McLaney of Snellville, Georgia and her children, Jonathon I. McLaney, Jenna McLaney, Christopher McLaney, all of Snellville, Georgia; granddaughter, Heidi Kupiec of Logan, Utah; son, Wayne I. Gover of Portland, Oregon; daughter, Joyce M. Gover of Portland, Oregon; son, David S. Gover III and his wife, Chana of Imbler, Oregon; grandson, David S. Gover IV, of Imbler, Oregon; granddaughter, Keyla Jo Gover of Imbler, Oregon; great grandson, J. Duelle Robinson of Imbler, Oregon; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, David S. Gover, Jr., her parents, John Lee Taylor and Florence Bell White Taylor, sister, Annabelle Taylor and brothers, Cliff, Kennett, Derral, Floyd, George, Walter and Oscar Taylor.
