Alma I. Perkins

May 23, 1921 — December 7, 2009

Alma I. (Brooks) Perkins, 88, of Richland, Wash., and formerly of Summerville, died Dec. 7 at Hospice House in Kennewick. A memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Richland Lutheran Church in Richland, Wash. Alma's ashes, along with her husband's, will be buried this spring in Hermiston. Alma was born May 23, 1921, to Harold and Mamie Brooks in Loup City, Neb. The family moved from Nebraska to Richland in 1936 and Alma graduated from Richland High School in 1938.

After graduation she married Ernie Perkins of Richland. After Ernie completed his Army assignment, they settled in Richland and had three children, Carol, Ron and Jo Ann. The family moved to Hermiston in 1951 where they owned and operated Dres-Well Cleaners until their retirement. Upon retirement they moved to Summerville where they continued their lifestyle of camping and fishing.

Alma enjoyed doing some oil painting, quilting and working with the ladies of the Summerville Grange, but Alma and Ernie were always together.

Survivors include children, Carol Hexum of Richland, Wash., Ron and his wife, Marlene, of La Grande and Jo Ann Naff and her husband, Ray, of Keizer; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister, Marlene Harris; and her brothers and spouses, Howard and Donna Brooks and Bill and Diane Brooks.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernie; and parents, Harold and Mamie Brooks.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to any church or charity.
