Alan Dorrance Eberstein, 59, of La Grande, died March 1 at Grande Ronde Hospital.
A celebration of life will begin at 11 a.m. March 11 at the La Grande Elks Lodge, 1124 Washington Ave.
Alan was born Oct. 28, 1949, in Kansas City, Mo., to George and Inez (Bayles) Eberstein. He was raised and educated in Eugene and graduated high school in Eugene. He then went to the University of Oregon, then on to OSU, and filmed and edited for the Eugene Police and Fire departments. He moved to Klamath Falls in the early 1970s where he opened and operated a camera store. He moved to
La Grande in the mid-1970s where he owned and operated another camera store. He was also a police reserve officer in La Grande.
He loved the VHF radio communications, and owned and operated his own station. He was also a commercial pilot. Alan loved to ride trains with his best friend, Dave McClay, and his father, Robert. He attended vendor conventions to keep informed on new communications products. Alan was also a member of the La Grande Elks Lodge No. 433 and the Eagles Lodge No. 259.
He is survived by his longtime companion and fiancé, Peggy Schonbachler; cousins; and aunts and uncles. Alan was preceded in death by his parents.
