Afton Hirst Case

Afton Hirst Case, age 86, of La Grande, died July 27, 2008 at a local care facility. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2008 at Daniels~Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration, 1502 7th Street in La Grande at 2:00 p.m. Committal and interment was held earlier at the Hillcrest East Cemetery.

Mrs. Case was born on October 31, 1921, the daughter of James Hirst and Pearl (Bowthorpe) Thompson, in Union. On January 4, 1948 she married Gerald Franklin Case in La Grande. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in La Grande. She served with the Relief Society and was Secretary to Primary and Mutual. She enjoyed crafts of all kinds and fishing. During the winter months she and her husband spent time in Quartzite, Arizona.

Survivors include her sisters, Athella King of Seatlle, Della Huges of Coulee Dam, Washington and Luana Peck of La Grande; numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband and sisters, Nelma Thompson, Wilma Anderson and Mildred Strong.
